Relevant Events

Barcelona will continue to host the GSM Mobile World Congress (MWC) until 2012, sources from the GSM Association confirmed. GSM has signed an agreement with the Barcelona Hotel Association for three more years, extending the current contract that was to expire with the 2009 edition. The MWC is the world's most important event for the mobile phone industry.

The new agreement calls for negotiations to set up hotel rates and the price of all services related to the event and its participants. GSM congress division director John Hoffman and Jordi Clos, from the Barcelona Hotel Association, indicated that a total of 234 hotels are to sign a new protocol to create a mechanism to increase hotel rates according to inflation.
