Three universities of the Catalan region lead scientific production in Spain

The University of Barcelona (UB), the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and the University of Valencia (UV) have lead the ranking of Spanish academic institutions with the highest scientific production, according to a report by the Foundation Coneixement i Desenvolupament, an organization sponsored by Banesto.

The University of Barcelona (1), the Autonomous (3) and the University of Valencia (4) produced 6,853 documents, a high percentage of the research activity carried out in Spanish universities. According to the Journal Citation Reports (JCR), 5,822 of these papers and documents have been quoted in other scientific journals because of the interest and quality of the research presented. The JCR measures the importance of a scientific publication based on the number of citations they receive in articles over a two-year period.
