Catalonia's Universitat Pompeu Fabra is Spain's best in research

Barcelona-based Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) took first place in academic research among Spanish universities, a study by Scimago Research Group said. In the survey, which included about 1,290 institutions of higher education from around the world, UPF ranked 107, ahead of Paris' École Normale Supérieure (108) and the University of California (115). First place went to Rockefeller University from New York.

The ranking is based on the number of citations that university papers receive in other people's publications throughout the world. At a national level, Catalan universities also took five of the ten leading positions among Spain's colleges. The study was conducted using Dutch database Scopus and was published last April in Spanish journal Magisterio. National and international rankings can be found online at MAGISnet.
