Agro-food Innovation

Lleida

The Agro-food Innovation Hub is in Lleida. This hub is strategically located just two hours from a potential market of 20 million consumers, making it a key distribution point for the Iberian Peninsula and Southern Europe.

A significant percentage of Lleida's economy comes from the agro-food sector. Most of its exports, around 68%, are agro-food products, with the food industry accounting for 30% of its GDP.

Lleida is currently in the midst of a transformation and focalisation process that focuses on knowledge and value-added intensive services associated with the agro-food sector, such as the influence of food on health (functional food), the impact of agricultural and agro-industrial processes on the environment, and the use of biomass as a renewable source of products and materials. Also of particular note are materials engineering, audiovisual and industrial biotechnology.
