Catalonia's cultural diversity, the cosmopolitan nature of its inhabitants, their multilingualism, the result of the country's openness and its commercial history and the region's ability to attract talent from elsewhere contribute greatly to making Catalonia an unsurpassable meeting point for international business.
- Catalonia is home to large communities of different nationalities. In 2007, Catalonia had 860,575 foreign residents, i.e. 12% of the total population and 21.6% of the total foreign population in Spain.

- Tourism, the hotel business and the catering industry offer alternatives for the recruitment of locals with language skills. Over 30,000 people study languages in Catalonia every year.
