Technological capacities
TECNIO organises its know-how into seven technological fields: biotechnology and health sciences, food technology, information and communication technologies, materials technologies, energy and environmental technologies, chemical technologies and production technologies.
TECNIO centers organised by fields
CERCA centers
As well as the TECNIO centers, each technological field includes the CERCA centers. These are 39 research centers of excellence, with the participation of the Catalan Government and one or more Catalan universities.
CERCA centers have the following characteristics:
- Independent agencies with their own legal personality
- Private management model with maximum flexibility
- Hiring policy aimed at attracting talent
- Advised and assessed by an external scientific committee
- Sufficient critical mass to produce an international impact
- Structural financing through a contract programme with the Catalan Government
- Investment in the most advanced scientific equipment
