IREC promotes offshore wind energy platform

The Catalan Energy Research Institute (IREC) has launched a project to assess the feasibility of operating wind turbine platforms offshore to avoid visual impact. The Tarragona-based IREC is already working on a test platform off the coast of Southern Catalonia, IREC director Antoni Martínez said. The project could be operational by 2011. IREC has a 5-year budget of EUR 28 million for energy projects.
